Two stars from North-West University (NWU) have added their own sparkle to the Parisian skyline, joining the ranks of other greats in the city known for its lights. Jo-Ané van Dyk (javelin) and Bradley Nkoana (4x100 m) captured silver medals at the Paris Olympic Games and showed that greatness knows no geographical boundaries, but is defined by determination and skill.

NWU athletics manager at the Potchefstroom Campus, Wade Fraser, was very pleased with how both athletes performed.

The field of industrial and organisational psychology has witnessed a remarkable evolution over the years, and at the forefront of this transformative journey is the North-West University’s (NWU's) Prof Lené Graupner. 

The North-West University (NWU) is proud to announce that five of its esteemed women trailblazers have been named finalists in the Higher Education Resource Services South Africa (HERS-SA) Higher Education Women Leaders Awards (HEWLA).

The NWU finalists are Prof Linda du Plessis, Prof Marinda Neethling, Dr Keaobaka Seshoka, Dr Susan Greyling and Zanobia Kanjee.

The awards ceremony, set to take place on 29 August 2024 at the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town, celebrates the exceptional achievements of South African women in higher education.

Prof Kenny Uren from the School of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering, highlights the unique nature of this programme.

Prof Wannie Carstens, the former director of the School of Languages at the North-West University (NWU), has been awarded the prestigious Jan H Marais Prize for his exceptional contributions to Afrikaans as a scientific language by the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns (the South African Academy of Science and Arts). This is in recognition of his high level and high quality of work, as well as his expert contribution to Afrikaans linguistics.

North-West University (NWU) academic Prof Gilbert Motsaathebe and alumnus Dr Monicca Thulisile Bhuda have been selected as part of South Africa's team for the 20th International Book Fair of Venezuela (FILVEN) in Caracas, from 11 to 21 July 2024. South Africa will be the guest of honour at this event.

Prof Linda Godfrey and Jonker Sailplanes (Pty) Ltd received these prestigious awards ─ also known as the “Science Oscars” – during a hybrid event and live broadcast from Johannesburg and Cape Town on 11 July.

The Sunday World Unsung Heroes list acknowledges individuals for their entrepreneurial spirit in making significant contributions to the country.
