A team of second-year students from the Faculty of Law on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng has broken the winning streak of third-year students by taking first place in the popular annual NWU Juta Mock Trial competition.

One normally reads about the ‘it girl’ in the celebrity world, but in academia, Dr Musawenkosi Donia Saurombe is the woman to watch. The Botswana national with Zimbabwean roots stands head and shoulders above her peers.

South Africa is experiencing an exponential crisis in terms of mathematics and science education. For the third year in a row the country has finished last in the World Economic Forum’s mathematics and science education quality rankings. In effect this means that SA’s performance in mathematics and sciences is lower than that of Nigeria, Mozambique, and Malawi.

Price and currency stability are crucial for financial stability, and the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) is a key role player in ensuring this. The bank is also a prestigious employer of high-level economics skills, as students realised during a recent SARB visit to the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng.

Another former player of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Soccer Institute, Boalefa Pule, has been included in the national Bafana Bafana team.

Not even the cold weather in Mahikeng on Friday, 4 August could deter students, academics and guest speakers from sharing best practices on a hot topic: responsible social media usage.

The past weekend saw top-class basketball action at the Sasol NWU Vanderbijlpark Junior Basketball Tournament. The tournament took place at the Harry Gwala Sport Complex in Zamdela.
