Preservation of languages at NWU under the spotlight

As part of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Language Awareness Week, library staff at the campus in Mahikeng recently attended a presentation on a study titled "The linguistic-cultural impact of Boloka: are all NWU official languages equal?"Boloka is the NWU institutional repository that hosts electronic theses, dissertations, journals, and other published and unpublished documents written by NWU staff.

Experience has shown that large numbers of people who start a master’s or a PhD degree seldom finish their degrees within the budgeted time frames of the respective programmes. In some instances postgraduate students fail to complete their studies in entirety and are forced to leave academia empty-handed and discouraged.

North West’s learners are robotics champions

Robotics is a fast-growing field worldwide and learners from the North West province are not lagging behind. The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Science Centre on the campus in Mahikeng, whose Techno Youth Programme equips learners with computer, communication and problem-solving skills, has been watching with pride as these skills are put to practical use.
