On Saturday, 7 October, southern parts of Israel suffered a surprise attack on an unprecedented scale by Palestinian military group Hamas, leaving a wake of destruction, with more than 700 dead, thousands of injuries and a host of civilians taken hostage.

The glaring disparities in vaccine access during the Covid-19 pandemic has led to South Africa taking significant strides to bridge the gap between the global north and the African continent's vaccine development needs.

Trio Joie de Vivre, consisting of three School of Music and Conservatory lecturers from the North-West University (NWU) will be performing their concert “Joyful Dances” during Aardklop.

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus recently bid farewell to director for student life Dr Sean McCallaghan after being with the institution for 15 years as a student and staff member.

Dr McCallaghan, who is leaving for New Zealand, was commended for his exceptional leadership, mentorship and student support at an event attended by his wife, two children, staff and students.

He said it is not easy for him to say goodbye.

His film War Dogs and I, which tells the gripping story of Kobus Olivier who refused to leave his four dogs behind as war broke out in Ukraine, has been nominated for Best Documentary Feature, while the inspirational Against All Odds: The Alwyn Uys Story, has been nominated for Best Achievement in Cinematography – Documentary.
