In a dynamic collaboration aimed at transforming communities through entrepreneurship, the North-West University’s (NWU’s) bhive Enterprise Development Centre (bhive EDC) joined forces with Radio Pulpit, I AM Youth and TBN Africa to host the "Pitch Your Business Competition".
This initiative not only fosters innovation but also drives economic growth, skills development, and employment opportunities across South Africa and beyond.
The competition was inspired by an initial idea from Prof Herman van der Merwe, deputy dean for teaching and learning in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, and Karel Verhoef, CEO of Radio Pulpit. They wanted to collaborate on supporting entrepreneurs, and through the combined efforts of the bhive EDC team, Radio Pulpit and I AM Youth role players, the competition was conceptualised and launched in 2023.
Designed to provide a structured pathway for budding entrepreneurs, the initiative guides participants in transforming their ideas into viable ventures through intensive self-paced training and competitive evaluation as they advance through three competitive rounds.
On 12 November 2024, the grand finale at the NWU saw six trailblazing entrepreneurs vying for top honours. Their pitches, which spanned diverse sectors, were evaluated by the judges on creativity, feasibility, and potential impact. The stakes were high, with prizes including R1 million worth marketing exposure through Radio Pulpit and I AM Youth and exclusive coaching and mentoring opportunities from the bhive EDC. Finalists also gained valuable media exposure through TBN Africa interviews, amplifying their stories of ambition and resilience.
