NWU scientists predict future global distribution of fall armyworm

The fall armyworm recently invaded Africa, devastating grain crops and thereby threatened food security. Entomologists of the North-West University's (NWU’s) Unit for Environmental Sciences and Management's Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Research Group developed a temperature-based development model that accurately predicted the global spread and establishment of this pest.

Unemployment in South Africa: Research findings to feature at Unemployment Symposium

The Optentia research focus area on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark and KU Leuven in Belgium, with the financial backing of the Flemish Interuniversity Board, have been investigating the experiences of unemployed people in townships in South Africa for the last five years.

Job crafting for academics

Award-winning teacher, researcher and tenured associate professor at the University of Twente in the Netherlands, Prof Mark van Vuuren, will be presenting a workshop at the Optentia research focus area on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark this September. The title of the workshop is “Job crafting for academics”.
