Basic education system pivotal to realisation of free higher education

A much welcome result of the #FeesMustFall movement is that over the next three years, the South African government spending framework has made provision for the allocation of R57 billion towards fee-free higher education and training. However – according to Prof Ilyayambwa Mwanawina, associate professor at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Faculty of Law, there is still a lot of groundwork to be done.

New digital directory aims to boost township economy

Innovating for innovation’s sake is not innovation. True innovation comes from identifying day-to-day challenges and finding novel and sustainable solutions. This is according to North-West University (NWU) alumnus, Olivier Tshimbidi, one of the founding members of Khomba Africa, a new digital platform that aims to redirect spending to local townships and by doing so, revitalise the South African economy.

Consultation is key in revision of NWU’s language policy

The five-yearly revision of the North-West University's (NWU's) Language Policy and Plan (LPP) is taking place presently and includes an intensive consultation process with various structures and stakeholders. All policies of the NWU are in the process of being reviewed following the adoption of a new strategy, structure and statute.
