There was colour and sound and merriment until late and all of it for a good cause: welcome back RAG. From 28 to 30 July, Potchefstroom was buzzing with floats, and no cold weather could dampen the enthusiasm of the students from the North-West University.

It was admittedly the first time in the long history of RAG that this charity event was presented in winter – Covid’s fault – but nothing else about the event was tampered with.

What good is theory if it is not put into practice? This is especially true for those studying or working in the health sciences. The Africa Unit for Transdisciplinary Health Research (AUTHeR) at the North-West University (NWU) is presenting various informal workshops and webinars throughout the year, concentrating on qualitative and quantitative research methodologies that focus on skills development and optimal support for researchers, study leaders and students. 

The Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) in partnership with the North-West University (NWU) hosted an Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) Youth Engagement campaign from 26 July to 2 August 2022.

On 26 July the RTIA visited the Mahikeng Campus, on 28 July the Vanderbijlpark Campus, and finally the Potchefstroom Campus on 2 August.

The popular annual NWU-Juta Mock Trials competition is back in full force, with last year’s virtual format making way for an in-person competition this year.

“We are very excited to have everyone back in our mock courtroom,” says Adv René Koraan, director of Professional Development and Community Engagement and senior lecturer at the Faculty of Law on the Potchefstroom Campus. She says the competition is an excellent opportunity for second- and third-year students to gain much-needed experience.

On 28 July 2022, the North-West University's (NWU’s) football team will face the University of the Free State (UFS) in the second round of the Varsity Football tournament.

In the first round UFS defeated the University of Pretoria (UP) by 3 goals to 0. More Varsity Football trophies have been won by UP than any other institution.

The NWU Eagles also rose victorious from the first round, beating Wits University 2-1 on 21 July 2022 at Wits Stadium.

According to NWU coach Karabo Masehela, Luzuko Jevuka's save hands would be the focal point of the defence.

The love two researchers from the South African Centre for Digital Language Resources (SADiLaR) have for language and their determination to promote and develop it have received a further boost with their inclusion on two language bodies of the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB).

Mmasibidi Setaka, digital humanities researcher in Sesotho, and Benito Trollip, digital humanities researcher in Afrikaans, are now members of the national language bodies (NLBs) for their respective languages within PanSALB ― an honour they both cherish.

It was unavoidable that a further increase in borrowing costs for business and consumers had to be implemented.
