NWU proudly boasts three alumni as Miss SA finalists

North-West University (NWU) alumni Anke Rothmann, Lebohang Raputsoe and Ané Oosthuysen secured a spot among the prestigious top 12 finalists in the Miss South Africa competition.

Anke, Lebohang and Ané will now compete with their fellow finalists to follow in the footsteps of Ndavi Nokeri, Miss South Africa 2022.The final event will take place on Sunday,13 August 2023, at the SunBet Arena in Time Square, Pretoria.

Beauty and brains

Anke Rothmann obtained her BPharm degree at the NWU’s Potchefstroom Campus and is currently a pharmacist intern.

She says the news that she had made it to the Top 12 finalists for Miss South Africa 2023 left her speechless.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with women of exceptional character, and to create cherished memories that will last a lifetime,” says Anke.

Lebohang Raputsoe, a human resources practitioner, obtained her BA in industrial psychology and honours degree in labour relations from NWU’s Vanderbijlpark Campus.

She says that this platform means so much more than just the title, and that Miss South Africa is an intellectually driven woman who serves with conviction, intention and dignity.

Lebohang says she is humble by nature and a powerhouse of note, which speaks to the kind of individual she is. Her approach to leadership is sustainable, focusing on the holistic progression and development of an individual.

“I have entered this year because I believe in progress and change. I have already taken steps to start the ABC community and will use the platform to continue my duty to champion youth development and empowerment.”

Ané Oosthuyzen, a primary school teacher, holds an impressive total of four degrees. Three of these were obtained from the NWU’s Vanderbijlpark Campus – a BA in behavioural sciences, a BSc Hons in psychology and a BAHons in art in medical sociology.

Ané says making the Top 12 has changed her life. “I have always dreamt about this moment, and finally getting to experience it feels surreal.

“I eagerly await the unfolding of this journey. I find the experience extremely rewarding, particularly the chance to meet and bond with my fellow contestants. I am grateful for the deep connections I have made and I am ready for what lies ahead,” adds Ané.
