North-West University (NWU) academic Prof Lesetja Legoabe and student Monique Labuschagne had an impressive showing at the 42nd Academy of Pharmaceutical Science of South Africa (APSSA) Conference.

Prof Legoabe from the Centre of Excellence for Pharmaceutical Sciences received the best publication award for his work titled "Investigation of Quinolone‐Tethered Aminoguanidine as Novel Antibacterial Agents".

Monique, who is affiliated with the NWU’s Preclinical Drug Development Platform, received the best poster award in recognition for her research.

Maricélle Botes, a final-year PhD student at the North-West University`s (NWU’s) Research Unit for Law, Justice and Sustainability, has been honoured with the National Research Foundation’s (NRF’s) Research Excellence Award for Next Generation Researchers in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Law category.

The award, presented at a glittering event, recognised her outstanding academic performance and demonstrated potential for contributing significantly to the national system of innovation.

The North-West University's (NWU's) Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), in collaboration with the Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa (HELTASA), will be hosting the HELTASA (Un)Conference from 24 to 26 October 2023 on the Vanderbijlpark Campus.

This year’s conference theme is “Celebrating Scholarship: Connecting the Lights”, and participants from South African higher education institutions are welcome to be part of the event.

Vickey de Villiers, a master’s student in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at the North-West University (NWU), recently received the 2022 Founder’s Medal by the Economic Society of South Africa for the best master’s research paper submitted at a South African university.

But, the impact of the Rugby World Cup far exceeds entertaining crowds with breathtaking tries and eliciting jeers from aggrieved crowds for off-the-ball scuffles. There are numerous economic factors that fluctuate with the fortunes of the respective teams.

A researcher of the North-West University (NWU) has done the institution proud by being acknowledged as one of the top three researchers in the humanities and social sciences at the recent South African Women in Science Awards (SAWiSA)*.

Prof Shan Simmonds was the second runner-up in this category for young researchers under the age of forty. She received the South African Distinguished Young Women in Science Award in Durban on 8 September. This award is given for outstanding contributions in advancing science and building knowledge in specific areas of research.

The North-West University (NWU) is showcasing its impactful research projects and programmes during its biennial Research and Innovation Week.

This year’s theme is “Research and innovation for sustainable impact”. The event is taking place from 18 to 22 September.

Research and Innovation Week is organised by the NWU’s Research Support department, in collaboration with faculties. They also use the event to conduct roadshows across campuses, taking research support services to the users.

North-West University (NWU) academics Thomas Erlank (tenor) and Prof Tinus Botha (piano) represented the School of Music in a performance of one of Schubert’s great vocal masterpieces, Schwanengesang (swan song).

The performance took place on Sunday, 10 September at 13:00 at the NWU Conservatory Hall in Potchefstroom.

Coert Visser, an honours student in human resource management at the North-West University (NWU), recently won third place at the Marius Meyer South African Board for People Practises (SABPP) Excellence Awards.

This award programme underscores the importance of human resource management within organisations, and also celebrates and acknowledges the outstanding achievements of students in the field.

The goal of the North-West University (NWU) to promote diversity and inclusion among students, staff and other stakeholders now includes Gender Awareness Week as a critical component.

Gender Awareness Week took place online and it was hosted by Dr Louise Postma, senior lecturer, and Dr Annamagriet de Wet, both from the Potchefstroom Campus. The campaign ran from 7 to 11 August across all three campuses of the university. The focus of the subject this year was the gender galaxy. The beginning of the week featured guest speakers who encouraged and educated the attendees.
