Former Johannesburg mayor calls out service delivery at business breakfast

Service delivery issues came under the spotlight when the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus recently hosted the annual Alumni and Friends Business Breakfast in partnership with the NWU’s bhive Business Enterprise Development Centre (EDC).

This year’s event was themed “Stabilising South Africa through fast-tracking service delivery”, and featured a panel discussion led by internal and external experts who spoke about service delivery issues.

Vanderbiljlpark Campus community welcomes Dr McCallaghan’s appointment

Dr Sean McCallaghan, recently appointed director for student life on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus, says his vision for Student Life is to continue creating a differentiating and inclusive environment for students.

Dr McCallaghan, who holds a PhD in business administration and management from the NWU, will assume his role on 1 March 2023, succeeding the late Jacob Simango who passed away in June last year.

Admired for his readiness to mentor and support students, his appointment has been widely welcomed by the university community.

NWU sign MoU to boost technological development in Vaal economic zone

On Friday, 20 February 2023, the North-West University (NWU) and the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate with the Vaal Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

This is to ensure that Gauteng investors and industry players in high technology sectors are supported in the development of new technologies, applied research and innovation and technical skills sets.

Nico’s sailing team cruises its way to national championships

North-West University (NWU) senior IT technician Nico Kroucamp is brimming with pride as his sailing team, Albatross, won three regattas in the last three months.

The three regattas the four-member team won, were the SA Sailing 75th Anniversary Regatta, the King of the Vaal Regatta and the L26 Class 2023 Free State provincials. The team is now awaiting an invitation to compete for national honours in KwaZulu-Natal.

New book uncovers age inclusive ICT use for service delivery

A book was recently published under the editorial leadership of researchers from Optentia Research Unit on the Vanderbijlpark Campus. The team lead by Profs. Vera Roos and Jaco Hoffman from the sub-programme Ageing and Generational Dynamics in Africa (AGenDA), included researchers and students from all the North-West University’s campuses.

NWU’s Vanderbijlpark Campus unveils a Pride Wall

Pink hair, bright clothing and face painting – nothing was too flamboyant for the Pride Celebration that recently took place at the North-West University's (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus.

Themed "Embracing our value of inclusivity", the event started with a colour walk from the RAG Farm to building A13, where a Pride Wall that depicts the LGBTIQA+ rainbow pride flag* was unveiled. The NWU’s male netball team was also introduced

NWU’s Vanderbijlpark Campus officially opens new ring road

The ring road on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus was officially opened for use this week amidst fanfare and excitement. To celebrate the milestone, new ring road users were treated to muffins handed out by the NWU’s mascot Eagi.

The road forms part of the R15 600 000 worth project entailing 630 m of road plus a new parking area and stormwater services.

Former NWU VC celebrates daughter’s graduation

It was a blissful day for Prof Ntate Dan Kgwadi, former North-West University (NWU) principal and vice-chancellor, as his only child Ofentse Kgwadi graduated recently.

Ofentse was among the droves of NWU graduates who were conferred degrees at a graduation ceremony held at Kompas Gemeente in Vanderbijlpark. 

Unfortunately, due to work commitments, Prof Kgwadi, who was expected to be part of the NWU graduation procession, could not witness the moment. Prof Kgwadi recently assumed office as vice-chancellor at the Vaal University of Technology.

NWU's Optentia appoints international health expert as extraordinary professor

Prof Doris Bohman, a registered nurse, nurse tutor and associate professor at the Department of Health, Blekinge Institute of Technology, in Sweden, was recently appointed as an extraordinary professor at the North-West University's (NWU’s) Optentia research unit. 

Dr Bohman holds a PhD in medical science and has extensive experience working with ethnographic methods focusing on gerontological care.
