The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijilpark Campus has once again been recognised as the highest-rated institution for higher education at the prestigious 2023 PMR.africa Business Excellence Awards.

PMR.Africa is a leading South African consultancy and research company. It publishes a business journal, together with an online version, serving as a vehicle for sharing the results of its various surveys. Through these surveys companies and institutions with potential are identified and recognised for excellence across all industry sectors.

Kurt Naicker CA(SA), a senior lecturer at the North-West University’s (NWU)’s School of Accounting Sciences, recently published an article in the asa (Accountancy South Africa) magazine titled "Impact of the 4IR on academia", highlighting the challenges and opportunities presented by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).

North-West University (NWU) academics Prof Babs Surujlal, executive dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, and Prof Ephrem Redda, from the School of Management Sciences, recently participated in the 6th InterUni 2023 Forum of Internationalisation of Higher Education, organised by the WSB University in Poland.

The forum brought together participants from universities across the globe, representing a diverse and international spectrum of academic institutions.

The Young Alumni Chapter of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus showcased its commitment to making a difference by donating a significant sum of money towards the education fees of deserving graduates and the university’s Meal-a-Day programme.

This act of kindness took place during the campus’s recent year-end function.

The Voices of the River choir from the North-West University (NWU) recently participated in The Lengau Choral Music Association (LECMA) competition. They came second in the wafa wafa large category.

They performed an extract from Giuseppe Verdi’s opera, Macbeth, even though it is regarded as one of the most dramatic and vocally intensive operas in the world, they did it with ease.

This chorale group from the Vanderbijlpark Campus has gone from strength to strength under the baton of Calvin Mofokeng, who also won the award for Best Choir Conductor.

Showing their commitment to community engagement, the North-West University’s (NWU’s) School of Computer Science and Information Systems recently organised the annual GeeXpo event. 

GeeXpo is a technology and innovation exhibition that showcases cutting-edge research, products and services from various industries, including information technology, robotics, engineering and science.

The North-West University (NWU) has recently launched a campaign to address the issue of plastic pollution. The campaign was initiated after the vice-chancellor, Prof Bismark Tyobeka, earlier this year challenged all staff and students to fight plastic pollution.

The launch of the campaign, #BeatPlasticPollution #StopUsingPlasticBottles, took place simultaneously across all three campuses, with events held at the Mahikeng, Potchefstroom and Vanderbijlpark campuses.

Imagine an hourglass and think of one of the countless impoverished communities in South Africa. Ask yourself: How do we enrich the lives of the people in these communities and equip them with the skills to secure sustainable employment opportunities? If you fill the hourglass with resources and turn it over, these resources will trickle down steadily, but leave few lasting effects for the community. Therefore, the question remains unanswered.

The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus recently hosted a meeting with the executive mayor of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), Cllr Sipho Radebe, to strengthen their partnership and to further explore possible opportunities that would positively impact the surrounding communities.
