Bodybuilding team rakes in awards at provincials

The bodybuilding team from the North-West University (NWU)'s Vanderbijlpark Campus had a successful run at the University Sports South Africa (USSA) provincials, walking away with eight trophies and three medals.

The team's impressive performance included five first-place finishes, one second place, and two third places.

The team's success at the provincials has also led to 11 bodybuilders qualifying to represent the NWU at the national USSA competition in eMalahleni, Mpumalanga from 1 to 3 September.

Vanderbijlpark Campus’s landscaping wins an award

Rothe Plantscapers’ landscaping on the North-West University’s (NWU's) Vanderbijlpark Campus recently scored the garden maintenance company a silver award at the South African Landscape Institute’s (SALI’s) Awards of Excellence ceremony.

As a principal member of the institute, Rothe Plantscapers submitted the Vanderbijlpark Campus as an entry, and their outstanding landscaping work earned them the award for their exemplary performance within the 75% to 84% range.

Cleanup campaign restores dignity to Vanderbijlpark CBD

The Walking in Victory Movement, the Christian student chapter on the North-West University's (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus, recently launched its #CleanUpVaal campaign.

Various stakeholders joined in, from students, school learners and street vendors, to soccer clubs and businesses. Together, they worked to clean up the Vanderbijlpark CBD, including two illegal dumping sites.

Hang a Hug for Mandela

The North-West University's (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus has successfully concluded its "Hang a Hug" initiative in honour of Mandela Day.

During the campaign, students and staff donated jackets and hung them on designated trees around the campus for those in need during the cold winter months. The initiative managed to collect more than 150 jackets.

Empowering female leaders to strive for excellence

In anticipation of Women's Month, the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus, in collaboration with ArcelorMittal South Africa Limited, recently hosted a breakfast event themed "Women of Steel".
Hosted by Prof Linda du Plessis, vice-principal and deputy vice-chancellor for planning and Vanderbijlpark Campus operations, the event focused on empowering women at ArcelorMittal South Africa and to provide them with the opportunity to network with other women in leadership positions.

Preparing students for the Fourth Industrial Revolution

The School of Accounting Sciences at the North-West University (NWU) is going to empower newly qualified and existing accountants to keep up with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).

This event will be hosted at the Tsebonokeng Hall on the Vanderbijlpark Campus on 4 August from 11:00 to 16:00.

The project, led by Kurt Naicker, a senior lecturer and chartered accountant at the School of Accounting Sciences, aims to identify the necessary skills and knowledge required for newly qualified and existing chartered accountants to integrate the 4IR into their environment.

Programme will boost female leadership in higher education

The North-West University's (NWU’s) People and Culture division will be launching a Women in Leadership Programme on 25 August 2023 at the Riverside Sun Hotel in Vanderbijlpark.

This programme is part of the NWU’s strategic initiatives led by the principal and vice-chancellor, Prof Bismark Tyobeka, and aligns with the university’s multigenerational strategy.

Bodybuilding team claims fifth USSA championship title

The bodybuilding team from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus once again emerged victorious in the national University Sports South Africa (USSA) championship for 2023.

This is the fifth time the team scooped the top spot, despite facing stiff competition from other teams.

This year the event took place at Forte Hare University in the Eastern Cape.
