Athletes from the North-West University (NWU) – both former and current – were in exceptional form during the recently held Athletics South Africa Senior Track and Field Championships in Green Point, Cape Town.
In all, sixteen medals were won in a variety of codes.
Javelin throwers Johann Grobler and Jo-Ané van Dyk claimed gold, as did 20 km race walkers Marissa Swanepoel and Wayne Snyman. Valco van Wyk leapt the highest of all in the pole vault.
Eljoné Kruger won silver in the long jump, Elroy Gelant emulated her in the 10 000 m, as did Marga Cumming in the hammer throw, Riëtte Heyns in the discus throw, Tamzin Thomas in the 200 m, Arend Pretorius in the pole vault, Christopher Swart in the 1 500 m and Annette Koen in the 20 km race walk.
Lasty, Karmen Fouche won bronze in the long jump, as did Tamzin Thomas in the 200 m and Anette Koen in the 20 km race walk.
Whether they are current students or alumni, they all made the NWU proud.
