It is that time of the year again where the trailblazers and go-getters of the radio waves get recognised for their efforts.
The Radio Awards, which honour outstanding achievements in the radio industry, recently announced their 2021 finalists.
NWU PUKfm 96.3, the radio station on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Potchefstroom Campus, has once again shown its mettle by receiving eight nominations in the following categories:
- Night-Time Show: Local Top 30
- News Bulletin Reader: Tsego Motsepe
- Daytime Show: Flashback Friday
- Daytime Show: On The Go
- Breakfast Show: Big Bang Breakfast
- Breakfast Show Presenter: Charonike Nel
- Breakfast Show Presenter: Khanyisile Mahlangu
- Afternoon Drive Show: PUKfm Drive
“It may not be the most nominations we’ve had in our history, but I am very grateful to and proud of the team,” says Charonike Nel, one of the nominees and station manager.
“They have been broadcasting from their respective homes since the first day of lockdown, and for us to receive eight nominations for a year like 2020 makes my heart jump with joy. Working at PUKfm is not something our students do on a permanent basis – it is in addition to their studies, and they are all volunteers.
“The fact that they put in so much effort and keep on broadcasting in these extremely difficult times is a massive achievement. I tip my hat to a team that works incredibly hard.”
The overall Radio Awards winners will be announced during a virtual event that will be streamed via digital channels on 16 July 2021 at 15:00.
