NWU expert co-edits new textbook on diversity management

Dr Leon Moolman, a senior lecturer in labour relations management, is starting the new year on a celebratory high after receiving his copy of the newly published textbook, Managing Diversity in the South African workplace

As one of the co-editors of the textbook, Dr Moolman is excited about the contribution made by the publication to the creation of a more inclusive and affirming workplace.

As an expert in the field of diversity management, Dr Moolman is especially focused on the role that effective diversity management plays in the management of sound labour relations within the South African workplace.

According to him, diversity management requires a particular emphasis on human rights, as well as valuing and recognising the uniqueness and contribution of every employee.

“When the aforementioned is achieved, the workplace will be characterised by a heightened awareness of, and respect for, a range of diversities that extend to sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as gender expression,” explains Dr Moolman. He adds that organisations in South Africa need to realise that it is critical to have a sound policy and strategy to manage diversity as a key indicator of long-term growth and success.

* The publication was co-edited by Prof Nasima MH Carrim, an associate professor in the Human Resource Management Department at the University of Pretoria.
