NWU chancellor receives prestigious international award

The chancellor of the North-West University (NWU) has been honoured with a prestigious international award for making a difference not only in her community but also globally.
Dr Anna Mokgokong, who was inaugurated as the NWU’s chancellor in 2019, is the recipient of the Women Who Make A Difference Award for 2022 of the International Women’s Forum (IWF). The IWF award ceremony took place on 3 November in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States of America.

Dr Mokgokong, who is chairperson of the board of Community Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd (CIH) and Afrocentric, among other institutions, is a true social activist and has made immense contributions to the transformation of the companies on whose boards she serves. She is also a senior director of various companies listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

According to Mr Joe Madungandaba, chief executive officer of the CIH Group, Dr Mokgokong was nominated out of numerous deserving and eminent women who are members of the organisation and who demonstrate innovative, tenacious and transformational leadership over the span of their careers.

Dr Bismark Tyobeka, principal and vice-chancellor of the NWU, congratulates Dr Mokgokong on receiving the award. He says seeing Dr Mokgokong receiving well-deserved recognition on an international platform such as the IWF is a proud moment for the NWU.

Ms Irene Charnley, incumbent president of the IWF’s South African chapter, says Dr Mokgokong embodies their shared mission of advancing women’s leadership and championing equality worldwide. “We nominated her for this illustrious award because we believe that she deserves it among global women leaders.”
