African Women in Business (AWiB) and Regenesys Business School honoured the chancellor of the North-West University (NWU) with their prestigious Outstanding Leadership Award during the AWiB Inaugural Conference awards ceremony in Sandton on 24 August.
Dr Anna Mokgokong, who was inaugurated as the NWU’s chancellor in 2019, received this special award in recognition of her entrepreneurship journey.
AWiB promotes leadership, entrepreneurship and economic growth for women across Africa. The inaugural conference featured influential speakers and was attended by more than 200 delegates from 14 African countries. According to AWiB, they are dedicated to supporting women in Africa through opportunities for investment, leadership development and entrepreneurship. AWiB aims to drive positive change across the continent. The theme of the conference was “Breaking Barriers and Igniting Growth”.
“It was heartwarming and humbling to be recognised by my peers not only in my country but in other countries in Africa,” says Dr Mokgokong.
Dr Mokgokong, who is chairperson of the board and co-founder of Community Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd (CIH) and Afrocentric, among other institutions, is a true social activist and has made immense contributions to the transformation of the companies on whose boards she serves. She is also a senior director of various companies listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Dr Mokgokong is renowned for her groundbreaking work in healthcare, academia, commerce and governance.
She is no stranger to receiving awards. She was recently honoured with the Legacy Award at the Black Industrialists and Exporters conference. Dr Mokgokong also received the Women Who Make A Difference Award for 2022 from the International Women’s Forum (IWF).
