NWU alumni and staff honoured at the Golden Key Honour Society member ceremony

The Golden Key Honour Society member recognition is an extraordinary celebration of brilliance, honouring the most distinguished minds and accomplished individuals for their unwavering contributions to the Golden Key society.

While each university has its own induction ceremony, the Golden Key International Honour Society hosts an annual virtual event to honour all the universities' honorary members collectively. The NWU’s Potchefstroom Campus conducted its ceremony on Monday, 31 July 2023, and the Mahikeng Campus hosted its celebration on Friday, 11 August 2023. Four days later, on Tuesday, 15 August 2023, the Vanderbijlpark Campus performed its ceremony. In addition, a recording of the virtual collective recognition ceremony for all members of the society for 2023 was released on Wednesday, 31 January 2024.

During her welcome speech, Gillian Cloete, regional director of Golden Key International Honour Society Southern Africa, applauded each member who had been chosen by the students based on their academic performance, leadership support and interest in community service.

“The Golden Key Honour Society membership is a testament to our inductees’ incredible achievements, dedication, and leadership. Recognise that your efforts have inspired countless others and served as a guide for an aspiring generation. By accepting this prestigious honour, you are joining an elite group of individuals who have made a significant impact on society. Today we warmly welcome you into our family, a network of exceptional individuals driven by a shared desire to empower and uplift one another.”

The following NWU alumni and staff were honoured and welcomed into the Golden Key International Honour Society:

Nomxolisi Xoli Moagi; Dr Portia Monnapula-Mazabane; Poloko Mmakgolane; Dr George Mothupi; Dr Thabo Tshabalala; Ms Lindiwe Ka Mntambo-Modise; Ms Candice Chirwa, and Ms Velaze Vinolia Mabele. Professor Sonia Swanepoel, deputy vice-chancellor for Community Engagement and Campus Operations: Mahikeng Campus, concluded the list.

“It is an honour to be associated with one of the largest honour societies that is active in more than four hundred universities,” said Prof Swanepoel. She added: “I am thankful and humbled to be recognised. ‘Excellence in all endeavours’ is one of our university’s values and Golden Key promotes academic excellence, which resonates with our values.”

The NWU congratulates the alumni and staff who were recently inducted as Golden Key International Honour Society members. They demonstrated their ability, and their selection was based on their success. May they always pursue knowledge, conduct lives of service, and reach their full potential.
