Sport Department to get staff active

With the saying: “A fit and healthy body is the best fashion statement”, the Sport Department on the Vanderbijlpark Campus of the North-West University is seeking to change the traditional way people think about fitness and health.

The department recently announced the introduction of the NWU Vaal Staff Conditioning Programme which is set to commence soon.

According to Mr Joseph Matlhong, recreation officer within the department, the aim of the programme is to create a culture where employees choose to live a healthier lifestyle. He says given how critical fitness is to overall health, the department thought it was worth following a new approach to exercising at the workplace.

“This is going to be a comprehensive fitness programme which incorporates exercising, gym sessions and dietary advice for staff” says Matlhong. Furthermore, he adds that while the primary goal of this programme is to promote fitness, it is also a great way to strengthen social cohesion amongst staff members.
