On Monday, 28 August, the Language Directorate of the North-West University (NWU) will be launching its annual Language Awareness Week across all three of the university’s campuses.
The theme of the week is “Multilingualism: The pathway to academic excellence through diverse resources”.
“This week is about celebrating the linguistic diversity of the NWU. We will be having a language awareness drive across all campuses. Each campus will have its own set of activities to celebrate the language development strides at the NWU, while making everyone aware of the opportunities for multilingual learning.
“The NWU Language Directorate is taking gigantic languages strides, and we want our students to celebrate with us. This is ultimately about our students and bringing their diverse languages and cultures to our doorstep. We wish to celebrate all of them. We also want to encourage our students to share the warmth and richness of their culture with others, so that we may all learn from each other,” says Dr Keaobaka Seshoka, director of the Language Directorate.
“Using multilingual approaches to teaching and learning is the most critical aspect of the NWU's language policy. Supporting multilingualism in the classroom can also be a valuable tool that positively affects students' academic performance and social and emotional well-being.”
Let the multilingual fun commence!
