Prof Juaneé Cilliers is currently the Head of the Urban and Regional Planning group at the North-West University, as well as programme leader of research program 7 (in the Unit for Environmental Sciences and Management) for Sustainable Development, Planning and Implementation. She holds a MSc and PhD in Urban and Regional Planning, as well as a MCom in Economics. She is a professional registered Urban Planner at the South African Council for Planners and rated researcher at the South African National Research Foundation. She has an established publication record and is part of various research teams locally and internationally (Bauhaus University in Germany, Wageningen University in the Netherlands, Leuven University in Belgium, Namibia University of Science and Technology in Namibia). She has good collaborative networks with the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN), the International Society of Urban and Regional Planners (ISoCARP), and the UN-Habitat (through the International Guidelines on Urban and Territorial Planning project). She specialises in Green Planning and Sustainable Development. She has demonstrated the ability to work across disciplines, professions and institutions in producing research and knowledge. At Aug 2018 she had published 41 journal papers, 57 conference papers, 8 chapters in books and 8 books. She supervised 29 MSc Students, 10 PhD Students and 2 Post-doctoral fellows (by Aug 2018). She is an editorial associate for the accredited journal Town and Regional Planning and host of a weekly environmental talk on a national radio station (RSG, Omgewingspraatjies).
