Eagles soar in first five Varsity Netball rounds

The North-West University Eagles are off to a strong start in their 2021 Varsity Netball campaign. The former champions, coached by Elsunet du Plessis, got their tournament off to a blistering start by winning the first four of their five games.

In a truncated tournament played in a bio-bubble in Stellenbosch, this is as intense as it gets. On Monday, 23 August, bragging rights went to Maties, who clipped the visitors’ wings with 71–60. On Wednesday, 25 August the Eagles beat TUT 69–40 after they had narrowly defeated the University of Johannesburg with 68–63 a day before.

Before that the Eagles had racked up a mammoth 82–33 win against the University of the Western Cape (UWC)  in what was a perfect follow-up to their 73–64 triumph over defending champions UP-Tuks.

The Eagles now occupy the second position on the overall log with 21 points. Top of the log is unbeaten Maties with 25 points, and the University of the Free State is third with 20 points.
