Eagles sink Madibaz

An Eagle does not have fangs, but they do have claws. However, should the NWU Eagles have had the former, they probably would have used them on the NMMU Madibaz too. On Monday evening on the Fanie du Toit sports grounds the Eagles thrashed their visitors from Gqeberha with 61–26.

At the back the Eagles were as poisonous as vipers and at the front, with Chris Vermaak and his two tries at the forefront, they were invincible.

Well done. The Eagles must have read their tea leaves before the kick-off and decided to take their destiny into their own hands.  Their nine tries, which included a penalty try, mean that the Eagles still have a chance to reach the play-outs.

At the moment the Eagles are in the sixth position on the overall log, with matches against the CUT in Bloemfontein and Wits in Potchefstroom still to come. The CUT is still waiting for a win this year, while Wits, just like the Eagles, can boast four triumphs after seven clashes.

A week before the Eagles got bogged down with 20–12 against Maties in Stellenbosch owing to a myriad of unnecessary errors.  What would a win in those quarters not have meant to the Eagles for the road ahead?
