She is the undisputed golden girl of the North-West University’s sound waves, and on Friday, 30 July Charonike Nel proved this once more at the National Radio Awards when she was named the Best Campus Breakfast Programme Presenter.
There seems to be no end to her hold on awards. Nel, who is the station manager at PUKfm 93.6, blushes tomato red when she is asked about her list of achievements.
She already boasts 21 radio award nominations and five first places, which include her addition to the Bright Stars Club.
“I am very, very grateful for the award. It is always an incredible privilege to receive recognition at a national level. And I think to PUKfm itself the nominations we receive mean the most. Our students are involved part-time in between their studies, and it is a reward for their passion and loyalty. Every award and nomination belongs to the station, and to the fantastic group of students who pour their hearts and souls, their blood, sweat and tears into it every day,” says Nel.
PUKfm 93.6 received recognition as one of the top five campus radio stations in the country.
“As far as future plans for the station are concerned, we try every day to make sure that we are a top learning platform to deliver well-rounded, professional employees for the radio industry. Everything that happens at PUKfm is about our students, our community, and the listener. It is about being more than just a radio station.”
