Campus applauds top academic performers

This year the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark welcomed not only a record number of first-year students, but also the cream of the matriculant crop of the South Gauteng region.

During a recent celebratory event, members of the campus management took time out to meet up with the top 30 academic performers of the campus’s first-year fraternity.

In her address, Prof Linda du Plessis, the deputy vice-chancellor for planning and Vanderbijlpark Campus operations, congratulated the students with their performance in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exam and motivated them to continue their studies with the same enthusiasm and vigour.

She also challenged them to become fully fledged members of the campus by embracing all opportunities that come their way, be it in the form of organised student life or opportunities to better themselves as responsive and responsible members of society.

In his turn, Teboho Siziba, the chairperson of the Student Campus Council, reminded the students of the various support services available to them and encouraged them to utilise these services to the full. “With all the support services at your disposal, you can continue on your academic success journey without hesitation and by doing so pave the way to even greater heights such as postgraduate studies,” said Teboho.

Each of the top performers was awarded a Rocketbook, a smart notebook that enables them to upload and store their notes to the internet.
