A bright future awaits clever Franco

Franco Bosman is a young man on a mission. At the recent Student Excellence Awards of the Faculty Economic and Management Sciences on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark, Franco was announced as the top CA student in the 2017 third-year group, with an average of 94%.

He is currently an honours student in the same faculty, and is looking forward to the three years ahead during which he will taste the proverbial waters of the world of work.

Prof Heleen Jansen van Vuuren, director of the School of Accounting,  Franco Bosman and Prof Linda du Plessis, deputy vice-chancellor for strategic planning and Vanderbijlpark Campus operations.

More about Franco

Franco passed matric with seven distinctions at Hoërskool Dr Malan in Meyerton. As one of five siblings, Franco accredits a big part of his success to his mother. She studied nursing, but home schooled all five of her children to at least grade 7-level. Franco was home schooled until he was in grade 9. His father is a reverend in the Afrikaans Protestant (AP) Church and a professor at the AP Academy.

The path that led him here

According to Franco, his path was not without challenges. His secret is to see every test as an opportunity to better his marks, to always do his homework and never miss out on the precious learning opportunity that every class provides. His studies are currently keeping him very busy and he says that he regularly works until midnight.

The road head

Franco says that his end goal is to be his own boss one day. He is looking forward to the three years that follow his honours studies, during which he will be completing his practical experience at Deloitte. His service contract with this multi-national company was already signed during his first year of study.

He hopes to gain valuable experience and build networks during his time at the company.

He thinks carefully when asked which one of his lecturers was instrumental in his journey thus far. But then he smiles and talks about how Ms Alinka Mostert presents her class with tremendous energy while still showing an interest in her students in a motherly way.

One thing is certain: Franco Bosman thought long and hard about the route he would like to take in life and, as his study journey is progressing, he is well on his way to becoming an alumnus with a bright future.
