Sasol, an international integrated chemicals and energy company, will be the main sponsor of the event during which teams from across South Africa and the greater continent will take to the court to battle it out for victory. This year marks the third collaborative venture between the North-West University’s (NWU’S) campus in Vanderbijlpark and Sasol, as well as the fourth rendition of the tournament.
According to Sean Mcallaghan, sports manager on the campus, 40 teams from across South Africa and neighbouring countries such as Mozambique, Swaziland, Zimbabwe and Botswana will be competing for the spoils. The tournament will take place at the Harry Gwala Multipurpose Sport Complex in Zamdela and entrance is free.
Teams will be competing for prize money of more than R30 000, trophies and medals.
According to Karin Fourie, senior manager for communication, events and branding at Sasol, this sponsorship is part of the company’s continued commitment to the local community and its interest in developing an upcoming generation with a love for sport. “Sasol’s contribution to the development of sport expands beyond one major sporting code – we sponsor a variety of sporting codes such as basketball, swimming, motorsport and soccer,” says Karin.
