The North-West University’s (NWU’s) Prof Elmarie van der Schyff of the Faculty of Law was appointed to serve as acting judge in the Gauteng division of the High Court of South Africa from 9 October to 17 November 2017.
A team of second-year students from the Faculty of Law on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Mahikeng has broken the winning streak of third-year students by taking first place in the popular annual NWU Juta Mock Trial competition.
The exciting annual mock trials of the North-West University (NWU), hosted by the Faculty of Law on the campus in Potchefstroom with the support of Juta, started with the qualifying rounds on 19 July, with the finals to follow on 15 August.

Another student from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus has self-published a book. Gaopalelwe Lesley Mathiba, a third-year law student, published his debut novel titled “The Essence Behind Motherhood: 'Behold your mother' ~John 19:27”.
The Law Faculty on the Mahikeng Campus of the North-West University (NWU) recently hosted a symposium at the campus multi-purpose student centre. The well-attended event saw second-year LLB students go against the final fourth-year students on the topic “The legacy of legal positivism and constitutional supremacy in South Africa”.
Ms Dipuo Peters, the national Minister of Transport, appointed Dr Kesolefetse Olivia Lefenya, a senior lecturer in Public Law at the Mahikeng Campus of the North-West University (NWU) and admitted advocate of the High Court of South Africa, as chairperson of the National Traffic Law Review Committee.
A total of 40 staff members of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Potchefstroom Campus received recognition for their first publication of a research article.
