(WJ) du Plessis is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law at the North-West University, South Africa. She holds BA (International relations), LLB and LLD degrees from the University of Stellenbosch. She is an NRF Thuthuka grant-holder. She obtained her doctorate on Compensation for Expropriation under the Constitution in 2009. She is interested in property law issues, especially in the land reform context, and has published numerous articles and chapters in this area.
Research in the field of Teaching and Learning:
My research career started in 2012 when I conducted research in collaboration with Mrs Veruschka Perlser-Carstens and Mr Andre Swart (both from the School of Accounting Sciences), on student performance in subjects such as Commercial Law, Auditing and Taxation. We presented a research paper at the 2012 Conference of the South African Accounting Association in this regard.
Presently: Research Professor in the Faculty of Law, North-West University, Potchefstroom, South Africa and formerly professor of Public Law, University of Stellenbosch. Founding director University of Stellenbosch/University of the Western Cape Research Unit for Legal and Constitutional Interpretation.
He was also Professor in and Head of the Department of Jurisprudence at the North-West University and professor extraordinaire of Comparative and Public International Law at the University of the Western Cape.
Gerrit Pienaar has been teaching property law at the Northwest University (previously the Potchefstroom University) from 1979, first as senior lecturer and since 1989 as professor. Presently he is the Director Post-Graduate Studies at the Law Faculty of the NWU. He obtained a LLD degree in 1988 with the thesis “The common law juristic person in South African private law”.
