Dance Extravaganza showcases dance team’s fancy footwork

The ballroom and Latin dance team on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus recently hosted their fourth annual Dance Extravaganza.

The main aim of the event was to raise awareness about the availability of dance as a sport at the NWU, showcasing the different styles of dancing, and to raise funds for the team.

Vanderbijlpark Campus bodybuilding team excels

The bodybuilding team on the North-West University’s (NWU's) Vanderbijlpark Campus has again brought home significant wins. The team recently participated in the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) National Championships in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga, and emerged victorious in several categories.

Mandlakayise Jonga was named the overall winner in the Senior Men's Physique category, while Moses Paneng took third place and Mthokozisi Zuma sixth place. Ayanda Piyo emerged as the winner in the Senior Man Classic Physique category.

NWU and NW Cricket changing the game and collaborating towards greatness

The objective of the North-West University (NWU) to invest in and increase its impact across communities has become fundamentally connected with community engagement.

The launch of the 2023/24 cricket season took place at the Willows Garden Hotel on Thursday, 7 September, with attendees including representatives from the NWU and North West (NW) Cricket.

In addition, the NW Dragons unveiled their new kit, offered the guests the first look at the squad for the upcoming season and announced their partnership with the NWU.

NWU Eagles prepare for crucial semi-final clash

As the 2023 Men's Varsity Football competition reaches its pinnacle, the North-West University (NWU) Eagles are gearing up for a crucial showdown against the log leaders, the University of Johannesburg (UJ), in the first semi-final.

The highly anticipated match is set to take place at the UJ Soweto Stadium in Johannesburg on 14 September.

The NWU Eagles, currently holding the fourth position on the league table, have had a season marked by ups and downs. With seven matches played, they secured three wins, and two draws, and suffered two losses.

Netball Eagles show there is no substitute for “heart”

Skills can be learned, tactics can be taught, fitness can be drilled, but there is no substitute for “heart”. The North-West University (NWU) Eagles’ Varsity Netball team has this heart not in spades, but in enough buckets to fill a truck.

On Monday, 11 September, coach Elsunet du Plessis’s team will square off against UJ in the semi-final of the Varsity Cup competition, having finished second on the overall log after undefeated UP-Tuks.

Noord-Vaal Cross Country competition broadens its horizons

On Saturday 26 August, talented athletes from 40 secondary and six primary schools participated in the Noord-Vaal Cross Country competition hosted by the North-West University's (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus and Hoërskool DR Malan in Meyerton.

The event brought together talented athletes from Vanderbijlpark, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Meyerton and Potchefstroom.

Taking place along the picturesque banks of the Vaal River, participants immersed themselves in the stunning surroundings as they navigated the cross-country course.
