NWU javelin throwers achieve metres of wins

At times, Waldouw Smit’s javelin career was one big question mark. Will he be able to overcome the injuries plaguing him? Will he be able to achieve his potential? Will he be able to surpass the 80 m mark? The answers are “yes”, “yes” and again “yes”.

This former learner from the Potchefstroom Gymnasium, who is mentored by Terseus Liebenberg at the NWU, was an SA Schools champion when he was 17 years old, and the javelin world was at his feet.

Terseus Liebenberg named the best coach of past three decades

“Master”. That is a title few can lay claim to. Best of the best. That is when a profession becomes a calling and is then developed into an art. Terseus Liebenberg definitely falls into this category.

Over more than three decades his knowledge and skill have taken athletes with talent and transformed them into global stars.

In the recent 2021–2022 SA Athletics Annual, a publication of the SA Athletics Statisticians (SAAS), Liebenberg was named the top coach of the readmission era by the executive committee of the sports body.

NWU Tawana looking for an improved 2022/2023 season

You cannot keep a good man down. Michael Seleka, football manager and head coach of the NWU Tawana at the North-West University’s (NWU) campus in Potchefstroom, sounds dejected as he gives a recap of his team’s performance in the SAFA ABC Motsepe League. The NWU Tawana ended their 2021/2022 campaign in a disappointing seventh position.

In the 2020/2021 season, the NWU Tawana ended in a respectable fourth position on the overall log of nine teams.
