Edgar Lebelo promised himself that no workload would ever be too big and no task too menial on his journey towards success. He stuck to his resolution and today this alumnus from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus is the co-founder of the business venture, e-Kasi Bucks.

With 11 official languages in South Africa, finding an effective yet affordable way to transcribe speech to text was never going to be easy, but that is set to change with some innovative thinking from researchers who are creating an open source web-based platform for speech transcription.

The South African Economy showed negative growth in the final quarter of 2016. This negative growth can be contributed to the decline in two sectors, namely: mining and manufacturing. Trafficking in persons is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights. Every year, thousands of men, women and children fall prey to traffickers, in their own countries and abroad. Unfortunately, human trafficking is also a reality in South Africa.

Victims of trafficking can be any age, gender, race or social standing and statistics indicate that  it is the fastest growing global industry – generating a staggering U$D 150 billion a year.
