The North-West University (NWU) today held a successful media networking session to update members of the media fraternity on progress on the commencement of its 2022 academic year.

The institution hosted its official academic opening on Friday, 18 February, while classes commenced this week on Monday, 21 February.

Why invention and innovation are not the same

Invention and innovation are two separate concepts, and the difference is important, especially to aspiring entrepreneurs.

This was one of the key messages to emerge from an entrepreneurship workshop for women, titled “The entrepreneurial woman – building an innovative enterprise”.

Leonie Greyling, senior manager in enterprise development at the North-West University (NWU), presented the workshop on 25 January 2022 as part of the activation of the Student Women Economic Empowerment Programme (Sweep).

Top service award for NWU astronomer

The United Kingdom’s Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) has presented its 2022 Service Award for Astronomy to Prof Don Kurtz of the North-West University (NWU).

"I am delighted to be recognised by the RAS for my outreach and service activities over my 55-year career," says Prof Kurtz.

He joined the NWU’s Mahikeng Campus as extraordinary professor in 2021, and has an A1 research rating from the South African National Research Foundation.

NWU continues impressive performance in rankings

The North-West University (NWU) has cemented its place among the cream of the crop of local and international universities in various global rankings in 2021 and is continuing its impressive ranking performance this year.

Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings has placed the NWU third overall in South Africa and 124th internationally on its ranking of the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger. The NWU was placed third overall in South Africa in this ranking in 2021 too.
