Take a bow, Graphic Design, you have made us proud – again

Excellence seems to follow the Graphic Design subject group at the North-West University (NWU), which has a well-deserved reputation for walking off with the top honours in national and international competitions.

They are continuing this winning streak with top positions in the recently released Loeries official rankings for Africa and the Middle East. These rankings have placed the NWU among the top four educational institutions for 2023.

He’s back, and as controversial as ever. The reemergence of former South African president, Jacob Zuma as a political role player is causing the party he once led no shortage of headaches at a time when they can least afford it.

The 2024 national election is going to be a watershed moment for the governing ANC, but their grip on power is slipping as coalition parties have their sights set on unseating the three-decades long incumbent.

SONA 2024: there is still “unfinished business” on the national agenda

There is still much “unfinished business” on the national agenda, including a more coherent overall economic plan for much higher job-rich inclusive growth.

In commenting on the 2024 State of the Nation Address (SONA), Prof Raymond Parsons, economist from the North-West University (NWU) Business School, points out that, as expected, prior to the 2024 elections the SONA was inevitably largely a party-political statement and also took stock of the government’s achievements over the decades.

New international editorial role in the nuclear field for Prof Bismark Tyobeka

Prof Bismark Tyobeka, principal and vice-chancellor of the North-West University (NWU), has been invited by the international journal, Progress in Nuclear Energy, to be part of the journal’s editorial board.

Established in 1977, Progress in Nuclear Energy is a peer-reviewed scientific journal covering all aspects of nuclear science and engineering.

Celebrating 20 years of excellence

In 2024, as we celebrate the North-West University's (NWU’s) 20th anniversary, our festivities will spread joyous purple cheer and leave a distinct purple footprint wherever we touch down – for we are going to dance, leap and soar.

In 2004, the NWU came into existence through the merger of the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education (its branch in Vanderbijlpark included), the University of North-West (formerly the University of Bophuthatswana) and the Sebokeng Campus of the Vista University.

NWU receives the necessary Ministerial support for the establishment of the Medical School

The North-West University (NWU) is delighted to announce that the Minister of Health, Dr M.J. Phaahla, MP, has officially supported the university’s plan to establish the NWU Medical School. “I am pleased to inform you that the NDOH was happy with your university’s initiative of setting up a medical training programme that has unique features of integrating primary health care early into the training of medical doctors. I am therefore pleased to provide your institution with my support in principle.

Management accountants claim international body’s top Africa awards

The North-West University (NWU) again distinguished itself as one of the country’s premier accountancy institutions when the NWU’s School of Accountancy and its Management Accountancy programme claimed three prestigious Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) Professional Africa Awards. The awards are powered by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
