The Science Centre on the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mahikeng Campus recently received its second state-of-the-art mobile science laboratory, courtesy of the Sasol Foundation.

Official NWU documents suggest that despite competing interests and financial pressures due to Covid-19, the pandemic has highlighted the need for the facility.
During the first three weeks of lockdown last year, gender-based violence (GBV) victims were trapped with their abusers, with no place to hide. During that time the government’s GBV and femicide command centre alone recorded more than 120 000 victims. Later that year police minister Bheki Cele announced that South Africa was still the rape capital of the world, with about 132 incidents per 100 000 people.
Thirteen academics from the North-West University (NWU) received recognition for their excellence in community engagement.
They were honoured during the NWU’s Excellence in Community Engagement (CE) Awards Ceremony that took place on 31 March.
The North-West University (NWU) celebrated the torchbearers of its teaching excellence during a virtual event. The best-of-the-best lecturers of 2020 were acknowledged for their work in taking teaching and learning to higher levels during the annual Teaching Excellence Award (TEA) ceremony, which was streamed online on 25 March.

Management has with sadness and frustration taken note of the way some of our Mahikeng Campus students conduct themselves, especially when there are calls for support and solidarity on matters at national level.
Since Monday, 15 March 2021, students, and members of the public have been protesting outside the main entrance to the Mahikeng Campus in solidarity with the call for a national shutdown of all public universities. Staff are still unable to access the campus to render services to deserving students.
