NWU’s partner consortium launches ventilator design competition for students

For many Covid-19 patients who experience breathing problems, the difference between life and death is access to working ventilators. During the Covid-19 pandemic, news reports have often highlighted the shortage of this lifesaving equipment and its related services – not only in South Africa, but also globally. This continues to be an issue of grave concern.

NWU celebrates Race Awareness Week

Race Awareness Week (RAW) is a week-long annual event at the North-West University (NWU), dedicated to raising awareness on the current discussions around race in South African society. The goal is to open discussions on history, current events and how we can progress in the future. This is done to create awareness on current debates around race and to stimulate impactful changes by building empathy and progress in our communities.

NWU Student Life and School of Nursing celebrate nurses

International Nurses and Midwives Day is celebrated annually on 12 May, and this year the North-West University (NWU) paid tribute to all nurses for the key role they play in society, and especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Student Life shows appreciation

The Student Life department on the Mahikeng Campus celebrated the day by reaching out to the nurses at the Health Centre to show appreciation for the work they are doing.

Former rugby captain passes away

It is with the deepest regret that the North-West University (NWU) has to say farewell to Tiaan Bezuidenhout who tragically passed away in a car accident on Saturday, 8 May.

Tiaan (26) was the captain of the NWU’s Varsity Cup side who reached the final of the 2018 tournament.

He was travelling to his mother when tragedy struck on the N4 near Kroondal.

The university would like to express its sincere condolences to Tiaan’s family and friends. It is always sad to lose a member of the larger NWU family.
