On 28 July 2022, the North-West University's (NWU’s) football team will face the University of the Free State (UFS) in the second round of the Varsity Football tournament.

In the first round UFS defeated the University of Pretoria (UP) by 3 goals to 0. More Varsity Football trophies have been won by UP than any other institution.

The NWU Eagles also rose victorious from the first round, beating Wits University 2-1 on 21 July 2022 at Wits Stadium.

According to NWU coach Karabo Masehela, Luzuko Jevuka's save hands would be the focal point of the defence.

The love two researchers from the South African Centre for Digital Language Resources (SADiLaR) have for language and their determination to promote and develop it have received a further boost with their inclusion on two language bodies of the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB).

Mmasibidi Setaka, digital humanities researcher in Sesotho, and Benito Trollip, digital humanities researcher in Afrikaans, are now members of the national language bodies (NLBs) for their respective languages within PanSALB ― an honour they both cherish.

Research being done at the Centre for Text Technology (CTexT®) at the North-West University (NWU) is helping to fill in the missing links about how these languages are being used, which will in turn lead to the development of language tools based on the latest technologies, notably artificial intelligence (AI).

A well-known former dean of the Faculty of Education and vice-rector at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus, Prof Dewey de Wet, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, 2 July in his house in Potchefstroom.

Prof de Wet studied at the former Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education (PU for CHE), now the NWU, where he obtained his BSc degree in mathematics and science, UOD, BEd, MEd and DEd degrees, as well as a BScHons degree from UNISA. 

North-West University’s principal and vice-chancellor, Dr Bismark Tyobeka, has been invited by prominent global leaders in nuclear affairs to be a panelist in an international webinar on the role of nuclear and radiology safety in the peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology.

Only a few moments before he was scanning his surroundings for a restaurant, unaware that his lanky frame had attracted the attention of the woman who is now running towards him. With endearing resolve she gives him a hug. Then, after she has relinquished her grip, she thanks him for the role he played in helping her obtain her degree.
