The North-West University’s (NWU’s) subject group Social Work celebrated its annual Solemn Declaration Ceremony, a significant event for social work students across the university.

The ceremony was organised by senior lecturer Tasleem Sayed from the Potchefstroom Campus, Dr Lucé Pretorius, deputy subject group leader and senior lecturer from the Vanderbijlpark Campus, and Ellen Tlhojane from the Mahikeng Campus.

In accordance with its internal processes and procedures, the North-West University (NWU) does not allow for a so-called walk-in application process for first-year students in 2025.

This means that persons who did not submit an application for studies during the application period, who did not receive an offer to study at the NWU or who applied for admission after the closure of the application period will not be able to make an application at this point in time.

Three rankings confirm that the North-West University (NWU) is an institution that shines not only locally but also internationally, and can stand tall among some of the world’s greatest universities.

The North-West University (NWU) made history by hosting the prestigious BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition from 24 to 28 November 2024, at its Vanderbijlpark Campus.

This event, coordinated by the BRICS Business Council Skills Development, Applied Technology, and Innovation working groups of China and South Africa, positioned the NWU as the first institution outside China to be recognised as a BRICS Skills Development Training Base – a remarkable achievement that brought immense prestige and global recognition.

Prof Roelof Coetzer, an academic from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) research focus area for Pure and Applied Analytics, has been awarded the prestigious Thought Leader Award by the South African Statistical Association (SASA).

This accolade recognises individuals who have profoundly impacted the South African statistical community through academic excellence, leadership, and industry contributions.

Ntokozo Happy Msiza, a PhD student in animal sciences at the North-West University (NWU), recently returned from the TechWomen programme in the United States, where she represented South Africa among women leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

TechWomen, an initiative by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State, empowers women from Africa, the Middle East and Central and South Asia to advance their careers, pursue their dreams and inspire others in their communities.

The corporate publications of the North-West University (NWU) have excelled in this year’s South African Publication Forum and Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Education (MACE) competitions.

It is a proud achievement for the university in its pursuit of excellence.

In addition to receiving two certificates of excellence, two wins, a runner-up position and two special mentions, the corporate publications also produced five finalists in four categories.

The unexpected and disappointing gross domestic product (GDP) growth figures for the third quarter of 2024 confirm the extent to which South Africa’s growth prospects remain vulnerable to negative factors such as adverse weather conditions, weakened exports and other lagging sectors.

The Occupational Hygiene and Health Research Initiative (OHHRI) at the North-West University (NWU) has once again showcased the outstanding calibre of its postgraduate students at the Southern African Institute for Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH) Annual Conference 2024. This prestigious event, which was recently held in Gaborone, Botswana, gathers top talent and professionals in occupational hygiene and rewarded three NWU students for their excellence in research, publications and presentations: Monica Young, Marelizé van Ree, and Nadia Botha.
