During a recent congratulatory ceremony, members of the Campus Management Committee made use of the opportunity to meet the new representatives on the Student Campus Council (SCC) and wish them well on their leadership journey.
In her address, Prof Linda du Plessis, deputy-vice chancellor for planning and campus operations in Vanderbijlpark, applauded the students for their passion and determination to make an impact within the student environment.
She encouraged the new cohort of leaders to actively join hands with the campus community in realising the NWU’s dream to be an internationally recognised university in Africa, distinguished for engaged scholarship, social responsiveness and an ethic of care.
She furthermore stated that the inauguration of new student leaders remains a highlight on the campus’s events calendar.
“Each group of student leaders represents a new chapter in the story of the NWU and its three campuses, and therefore we welcome our student leaders into office with high expectations,” said Prof Du Plessis, and added that student leadership goes hand in hand with responsibility and accountability.
“Assuming any leadership position is a precursor for students to build their portfolio and capability to face the even greater responsibilities in the future. Now is your opportunity to build a leadership repertoire, learn and re-learn pivotal leadership skills.”
The SCC is made up of 15 portfolios and heading-up the NWU Vanderbijlpark team is Teboho Siziba. The following office bearers will serve on this leadership structure:
