NWU Vanderbijlpark boasts new Alumni Advisory Committee

Six years after the establishment of the very first alumni advisory committee at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark, the committee is still making its impact felt.

The committee represents the campus’s strong and vibrant alumni fraternity located around the globe. These alumni members occupy key corporate, industry, government and community leadership roles. The nine member committee is tasked with the challenge to ensure a strong and meaningful network for all graduates, maintain a good working relationship with the different university structures and, act as liaison between industry and academia. In short: building a bridge between the knowledge and skills of yesteryear and future potential.

According to Zanele Ngobesi, alumni relations practitioner, being an alumnus represents much more than a sense of belonging, it makes every graduate a shareholder of their alma mater. Zanele explains that there are several ways in which alumni can get involved with their alma mater. These include charitable donations, mentorships, internships and volunteerism.

The mandate of the advisory committee is to interact with the different alumni groupings (e.g. postgraduate, subject groups, degree qualifications and residences) and to foster pro-active relationships with these different groupings. Since the committee is made up of representatives from a wide variety of professional backgrounds and affiliations they furthermore serve as an important link between the university and the external environment.

The committee is made-up of the following members:

  • Pat Matla
  • Nikiwe Zulu
  • Yolanda Fourie
  • Zanele Ngobese (NWU Alumni Office)
  • Mpho Mosia
  • Vincent Kheswa
  • Pule Pitso
  • Thami Manzi
  • Morabe Ramosebi
