Lanthé Kruger obtained her B.Sc. degree in September 2003 at the former Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education (PU for CHE), where after she started with her post-graduate studies with special focus on cardiovascular physiology. During this time, Lanthé was also appointed as a temporary lecturer (2006-2008) as well as research assistant (2005-2008) within the Cardiovascular Physiology research group. During this time, she gained insight and experience into both worlds of academia as well as research. In September 2010 she obtained her PhD titled “Cardiovascular dysfunction in black South Africans: an investigation from various perspectives” with Prof Alta Schutte as her promotor. In November 2010 Lanthé accepted a post-doctoral fellowship within the Africa Unit for Transdisciplinary Health Research (AUTHeR). From the outset Lanthé acted as project leader for the Prospective Urban and Rural Epidemiological (PURE) study, with responsibilities ranging from writing articles and funding applications, data and information management, human resources as well as liaison between South African and Canada. Lanthé is currently acting in the capacity of Principle Investigator (PI) of PURE, managing all aspects of this multi-country (27 countries involved) research study. Her research and publication profile presents a strong focus on non-communicable diseases, cardiovascular events and their risk factors with an affinity towards epidemiology and quantitative research methodology. In January 2018 Lanthé was promoted to Associate Professor (Research) within AUTHeR.
