Varsity Football: a good platform for nurturing talent

Varsity Football continues to play a prominent role in nurturing talent for role players involved with the game – from players, technical staff, masters of ceremonies, photographers, and sports writers – to name but a few.

Dimpho Khumalo, master of ceremonies (MC) for the North-West University (NWU) during the 2022 Varsity Football tournament, believes her role as MC in this tournament is a steppingstone to greatness.

“Being an MC for the NWU Eagles’ home games gives me great exposure – not only to the world of sports, but also to the media industry which I am passionate about,” she says.

Dimpho has a lot of experience under her belt. She has been a radio presenter with NWU FM from 2019 to 2021, a presenter for the NWU Sports show in 2019, MC for Mr and Miss NWU Campus in 2021, and MC for NWU Open Day, before she was selected to be the NWU MC for the 2022 Varsity Football tournament.

NWU Soccer Institute manager Vuyo Sambo says they chose Dimpho for this role because she was very popular with the audience when she was with the campus radio station.

“Dimpho has a larger-than-life personality with a passion for sports and interacting with people. She has great confidence and respects her performing art, and ‘Dimps’ knows her worth.”
