The North-West University (NWU) Vanderbijlpark Campus, through the office of the campus chief director, recently hosted a Campus Connect Breakfast that brought together staff members, academic leaders and student representatives for a morning of reflection, alignment and renewed commitment to institutional excellence.
Held at Tsebonokeng Hall, the event provided a strategic platform for Andiswa Msi, campus chief director, and Prof. Jeffrey Mphahlele, deputy vice-chancellor for research and innovation, community engagement and postgraduate studies to outline the future direction of the Vanderbijlpark Campus.
Discussions were firmly anchored in the guiding philosophy of the university of One NWU, One Purpose, One Culture of Excellence, with a strong emphasis on fostering a people-centred, safe and responsive campus environment.
In her address, Andiswa highlighted the importance of prioritising people in all aspects of campus operations and service delivery.
“Our vision for the Vanderbijlpark Campus is clear,” she said. “We are building a campus that is focused on people’s needs, well-being and success. We are committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all, delivering reliable and responsive services that meet the expectations of our community, and nurturing a staff complement that is professional and proud of their contribution. Above all, we strive to foster a vibrant and inclusive culture that truly reflects the values of One NWU.”
She added that the campus leadership remained dedicated to unity, people-focused leadership and operational excellence, stressing that a thriving campus is built through collaboration, professionalism and a shared commitment to the success of the entire university community.
The Campus Connect Breakfast also served as an opportunity to formally welcome new members of the leadership of the university. Attendees extended a warm welcome to Dr Evalancia Jones, the newly appointed chief director for People and Culture, and Prof. Mabutho Sibanda, the new executive dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, marking an important moment of leadership renewal.
Reflecting on the start of the academic year, Prof. Mphahlele spoke about the need to cultivate a culture of excellence and shared responsibility. He provided an overview of recent milestones, including the successful Campus Welcome Day, which brought together students, staff and parents in a strong display of unity and community spirit.
“The success of the Campus Welcome Day is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together,” said Prof. Mphahlele. “I would like to congratulate all staff members involved for delivering such a well-coordinated and impactful event.”
He also commended the Student Campus Council for hosting a seamless Campus Orientation Day and wished lecturers well as they embark on the new academic year.
Addressing ongoing infrastructure developments, Prof. Mphahlele urged the campus community to remain patient, noting that construction projects were progressing steadily and were expected to be completed by the end of the year. He confirmed that the Psychosocial Support Unit had already
moved into its new building and that several sports facilities had been completed and were in active use.
