Vanderbijlpark Campus celebrates academic excellence at Golden Key recognition ceremony

The Vanderbijlpark Campus of the North-West University (NWU) recently hosted a prestigious Golden Key International Honour Society New Member Recognition Ceremony at Tsebonokeng Hall, welcoming a new group of high-achieving students into the global network of scholars.

The event honoured the top 15% of students at the NWU who have excelled academically and demonstrated leadership potential. Golden Key, the world’s largest international collegiate honour society, provides members with access to scholarships, international opportunities and community service initiatives.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof Natasha Ravyse, an associate professor in the Faculty of Law, encouraged students to embrace their academic excellence while confronting challenges such as imposter syndrome. She reminded inductees that success is not only measured by grades, but also by resilience, leadership and impact on society.

Other highlights included the recognition of chapter officers by Lemay Schoeman, chapter advisers by Andile Mzima, and honorary members by Lindelwa Mdlalose. The ceremony also featured the reading of the charge by Nonhlanhla Dube and closing remarks by Busisiwe Sitoe.

Speaking after the event, organiser and primary adviser Jenny van der Walt said the ceremony was a proud moment for the campus community.

“This event was a true success. It is always inspiring to see our students recognised for their hard work, dedication and academic achievements. I congratulate each and every one of them on this milestone and look forward to seeing the impact they will make in the future,” she said.

Jenny added that the recognition ceremony not only celebrated the achievements of the new inductees, but also reaffirmed the commitment of the Vanderbijlpark Campus to fostering academic excellence, leadership and service among its students.

The regional director for Golden Key Southern Africa, Gillian Cloete, also congratulated the new members, encouraging them to take advantage of the opportunities for personal growth and community service offered by the society.
