TUT stains NWU’s stellar start with 1-0 victory

In what was undoubtedly a game of settling old scores, the North-West University (NWU) faced-off against Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) on Thursday night, 16 August 2018.

In an epic televised clash, TUT put an unwanted stain on the NWU record of three wins from three, and the NWU lost 1-0.

Following a thrilling first 80 minutes with little difference between the two unbeaten sides, it was with just 10 minutes remaining that TUT saw a gap in the NWU’s defence. Doing what any good competitor would do, TUT scored the winning goal through a towering header by Siphamandla Zanekile.

Although the NWU may have lost their first match after an impressive collection of victories, the purple wave is united in their collective pursuit of emerging as the tournament victors.

“We played a good game,” said NWU coach Monde Hlatshwayo. “We gave it our all and though the results are not what we hoped for, it isn’t a train smash. We won’t win every game and that’s what makes us hungrier. We are going back to the drawing board.”
