A+ for top performing educators

What is the value of an effective and compassionate educator? The answer is simple: such educators are priceless, especially within the South African schooling system.

During the recent Autumn Graduation Ceremony of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) campus in Vanderbijlpark, four graduates in the field of Educational Sciences were applauded as top achievers within their respective degree courses.

  1. Jayde Chelsea Graham – BEd in Foundation Phase

Jayde was born in Durban and was raised in Gauteng where she attended Birchleigh High School in Kempton Park. She matriculated in 2013 and enrolled for a BEd in foundation phase at the campus in Vanderbijlpark in 2014.

She completed her degree in the minimum prescribed period of four years and passed 52 out of 63 prescribed modules with distinction. She maintained an average of 84,61% during the course of her studies. The latter saw her being offered membership to the Golden Key International Honour Society.

As an educator she is currently working at Bentley Preparatory School as a Grade 1 teacher in Midrand. Jayde aspires to enrol for her honours qualification in the near future.

  1. Adèl Burger – BEd in Intermediate and Senior Phase

Adèl was born and raised in Vanderbijlpark. She matriculated in 2012 from Hoërskool Driehoek with a distinction in life orientation.

In 2014, she enrolled at the campus in Vanderbijlpark for a BEd in intermediate and senior phase. She completed her degree in the minimum prescribed period of four years and achieved 51 distinctions out of her 56 prescribed modules. During the course of her studies she maintained an average of 84,26%. Due to her outstanding academic performance, she has been offered membership to the Golden Key Honour Society.

She is currently working as a Grade 5 mathematics teacher at Laerskool De Deur. She aspires to enrol for her honours qualification in the near future.

  1. Cherise Chavon Botha – BEd Senior Phase and FET (Technica)

Cherise was born and raised in Pretoria, where she attended HTS Pretoria Gardens High School, and matriculated in 2013.

In 2014 she enrolled at the campus in Vanderbijlpark where she registered for a BEd senior phase and FET (technica). In 2015 she worked as a supplemental instructor for the first- and second-year students in mathematics. She also represented the campus in netball and action netball.

Cherise completed her degree in the minimum prescribed time and achieved four distinctions out of her six final-year modules in 2017. She is currently working at Die Anker Skool.

  1. Fatima Moola – BEd Senior and FET Phase

Fatima was born and raised in the small town of Roshnee near Vereeniging. She attended Roshnee Secondary School and matriculated in 2013 with five distinctions.

In 2014 she registered at the campus in Vanderbijlpark for a BEd in senior and FET phase. She majored in mathematics and accounting. In 2015, she was awarded with a certificate for being the best performing first-year student within the BEd degree field. During this time she was also offered membership to the Golden Key International Honour Society. During her studies she also served as a supplemental instructor for first-year students majoring in accounting. In 2016, she was again awarded with a certificate for being the best performing second-year student.

Fatima completed her degree in the minimum prescribed period of four years and passed 51 of her 54 prescribed modules with distinction, and maintained an average of 86,12%.

She is currently working at Horizon International High School where she teaches Grade 9 economic management sciences as well as Grade 10-12 accounting. Fatima aspires to enrol for an honours qualification in the near future and to one day open her own educational institution.
