Tlhokomelo Khusu from Matatiele in the Eastern Cape is a second-year student doing a BSoc with psychology degree at the North-West University (NWU), and she finds joy in putting words together.
This year, Tlhokomelo published an English poetry book titled Sunshine.
“I started writing letters to my mother when I was eight years old, and this is where my love for writing started,” she says.
“I believe words heal broken hearts and give hope to the hopeless, and I want to share this with the world through my writing.”
Tlhokomelo entered the AVBOB Poetry competition in 2021, and says she started believing in herself after her poems got approved.
“I decided to write a poetry book and saved my allowance to publish it,” she adds.
“To me, sunshine means happiness, and I want people to know that even though you will have difficult times, there will also be times when you will enjoy the sunshine in your life.”
