NWU Vaal Senior Basketball Tournament a display of sporting talent

Reach for the sky or don’t even try.  This well-known basketball saying rang true during the recent high-profile NWU Vaal Senior Basketball Tournament which took place at the Harry Gwala Sport Centre in Sasolburg. This year marks the third rendition of the tournament and saw Sasol and Anglo American coming on board as the main sponsors of the event.

NWU boasts top SAICA results

Cheers rang out on the Friday afternoon of 31 March as the South Africa Institute for Chartered Accountants (SAICA) released the results of the Initial Test of Competence (ITC: qualifying exam part 1). “It gives me great pleasure to announce that, with a 94% pass rate for first-time candidates, the North-West University (NWU) achieved the first position in the country in terms of pass rate. No other university had a pass rate of 90% or above.”

Manufacturing sector not out of the woods yet – Dr Andre Mellet

The South African Economy showed negative growth in the final quarter of 2016. This negative growth can be contributed to the decline in two sectors, namely: mining and manufacturing. During an interview with RSG, well-known economist, Dr Andre Mellet from the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Vanderbijlpark Campus, commented on the negative growth figures for the final quarter of 2016.

New chairperson of the Council of the North-West University (NWU) announced

At the meeting of the NWU Council on 16 March 2017, Dr Mzubanzi Bismark Tyobeka was elected as the new chairperson who will steer the Council for the next three years. This follows the expiry of the previous chairperson, Adv Johan Kruger's term of office at the end of March 2017. He did not avail himself for re-election.

International research collaboration to focus on female entrepreneurship

Economists, academics alike are in agreement: female entrepreneurs are an under-tapped force that can revive economic growth. Having said this, Natanya Meyer – a lecturer within the School of Economic Sciences on the Vanderbijlpark Campus of the North-West University (NWU), will join an international research team to collaborate on a research project titled: “Women for Women Entrepreneurship Development.”
