Disappointing unemployment figures reinforce urgency for higher, job-rich growth

Not unexpectedly, the latest unemployment figures for the second quarter of 2024 rose to 33,5% against the background of previous weak economic data that negatively influenced job creation.

In commenting on the release of the Quarterly Labour Force Survey for the second quarter of 2024 by Statistics SA, Prof Raymond Parsons, economist from the North-West University (NWU) Business School, says the gross domestic product (GDP) growth figures in recent quarters have been disappointing.

NWU Enterprises officially launched

It is official: The North-West University (NWU) has embarked on another exciting venture with the launch of NWU Enterprises at the NWU’s Potchefstroom Campus on Monday, 12 August.

The aim of NWU Enterprises is to deliver impactful, commercially focused research, consulting and commercial services and innovative companies from the NWU. It is a wholly owned subsidiary with the capacity to efficiently and astutely deliver a substantial and growing portfolio of directed research, consulting activities and derivative commercial activities.

Africa is experiencing a tourism renaissance. Since 2022, the continent has seen a remarkable turnaround in its tourism fortunes, and it is enjoying an influx of foreign currency. Experts agree that now is the time to capitalise on this renewed interest in Africa as a tourist destination, as opportunities like this don’t come along very often.

North West ESKOM Expo celebrates young scientists

Young scientists from several primary and secondary schools in the North West province presented their scientific projects at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists Regional Science Fair held on Friday, 2 August 2024 at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Potchefstroom Campus.

The learners were also treated with a campus tour, including  a visit to the Botanical Gardens and Science Centre.
