Caster Semenya can’t stay off a podium. She grabs gold and headlines with almost monotonous regularity and at the recent Sport Awards of the North-West University’s (NWU) campus in Potchefstroom, it was no different.

NWU alumna Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters has been crowned as the new Miss Universe. On Sunday night in Las Vegas the 22-year-old beauty and current Miss South Africa beat more than 90 participants from across the globe to be named the first South African to hold this prestigious title since Margaret Gardiner 39 years ago.

The North-West University (NWU) Council appointed Prof Marilyn Setlalentoa as the new deputy vice-chancellor for assigned functions and operations for its campus in Mahikeng during its meeting on 23 November. She is appointed for a term of five years.

The Council on Higher Education (CHE) has informed the North-West University (NWU) that the accreditation outcome of the review of the LLB programme has been revised from ‘Notice of withdrawal of Accreditation’ to ‘Reaccreditation subject to meeting specified conditions.’

Currently 199 million women worldwide live with diabetes. Therefore the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Africa Unit for Transdisciplinary Health Research (AUTHeR) is committed to raise awareness of this condition.
